PRAYERS TO PRAY DURING PREGNANCY

PRAYERS TO PRAY DURING PREGNANCY

Pregnancy is such an incredible gift, and Stanley and I are incredibly grateful to God for allowing us to bring a beautiful life into this world. Our son is such a gift to us!

Like most mum to be's, during my pregnancy I was determined to find out as much information as possible, so you can imagine that I dove head first into as many pregnancy articles, magazines, books and websites that I could find.

I loved tracking Baby Awuku's growth and progress with pregnancy apps, but at some point, all the information got a little overwhelming. At times I would find myself worrying about baby's development wondering if he was OK, breathing OK and moving OK. I would also worry about whether I would be prepared for labour- the final stretch!

Each week, and each trimester arrives with its own different needs, and as my pregnancy progressed, I focused on praying for specific things concerning baby and myself.

Prayer works

Prayer works and it’s powerful.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

How beautiful that when we direct our anxieties to God He exchanges it for peace, and how comforting to know that we can lift up every part of our unborn child, with confidence that His will WILL be done, and it will be good in the end. Praying during pregnancy is powerful- even when we feel that we are at our most weakest, and at times are so helpless. As long as I can utter a word, I can intercede for my unborn child- something that is far more important than the amount of clothes, and toys that I could buy.

Below are some of the things that I prayed about, I hope these pregnancy prayers help to give you peace, patience, and confidence in God's involvement like they have helped me.

My first prayer

(When we found out that we were expecting)

Father thank you for the incredible opportunity to be with child. It's something that I truly cherish as a gift given to me and my family and we are so very grateful. Thank you for allowing my body to function as you have created it to, and for the miracle of new life growing inside of me. Mind-blowing! Lord you already know who this child is- whether boy or girl, and what they are destined to become. How thrilling to be co-partnering on this journey with you! I pray for the life of this child, that in the next few months which are most delicate, you will cause this child to develop just as they should according to Psalm 139. I claim a healthy pregnancy, in Jesus’ name. Lord, becoming a parent is no simple or easy responsibility, and my prayer is that you will fill us with absolute joy. As you have gifted this child to us, please help us to be good stewards over this child's life, to dedicate this child to you, and to never forget that you have a great plan for them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Baby’s purpose and destiny

Father thank you for this child that is growing inside of me. Before this child was conceived, you knew them by name. You have called this child forth, given him/her/them a heartbeat and set him/her/them to be your image and light bearers in this broken and dark world. As parents, Lord help us to not be selfish with this gift, but to freely give him/her/them over to you. You have a destiny for this child and I know that the enemy will want to come against everything that you have planned. May your will prevail. Lord I come against any and every destructive force and plan of the enemy to prevent this child from reaching him/her/their full potential in you. May we raise them to be focused upon what you want them to be, and most importantly to have a heart and reverent fear of you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Preparing for labour

(Which can be a very frightening prospect!)

Dear Lord, thank you for the ability to carry this child. You created my body to be strong and capable to give birth to children. You are Almighty and know everything that is going on with my body and my baby. You know the exact minute my baby will be born. Lord I pray for the easing of anxiety, worry and fear of the unknown when it comes to childbirth.

I have heard of many stories, and it can fill my heart with worry at times. I pray that you will help me to keep my mind and heart focused upon you during labour- no matter how the process goes. I have written my birth plan out as a desire that I have, but Lord you know what my labour will be like. Whatever the process ends up being like I ask that you keep me calm and peaceful as I deal with the pain and transitions. I pray for an understanding, calm and patient medical team.

May I sense your love and presence during labour, that you are yoked with me, alongside me strengthening me with every contraction and every push until the little one is here. Bless this delivery, Lord, and give me a positive and faith-filled outlook. Thank you Lord in advance, Amen.

Prayer to pray on your due date

Today is my due date! Thank you Lord for seeing me through all 3 trimesters, and now to full term! Our baby is fully formed- how exciting. Lord you know the right time when this child will be born so I don't need to be anxious about anything. We are looking forward to welcoming our baby home and starting our family- thank you for the gift of this. Bless my labor and delivery. Please keep me calm, strong and focused.

Lord, help us to place our trust in you even if baby doesn't come today. May we not be reliant on dates, but on your perfect plan and will. Help me to be sensitive to my body, and to your voice Lord. You are a good and faithful God, and my hope rests in you. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer to pray if your baby is late

(Baby Awuku was nearly 2 weeks overdue!)

When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I (Psalm 61:2).

Lord ease my anxious and impatient heart as we wait for baby to arrive. Strengthen me through the discomfort, pain and weariness, and continue to keep my excitement for delivery. Whatever the delay is with baby arriving please help me to be understanding. As long as baby is healthy I ask that you will use this to continue to teach me patience, and trusting in your sovereign hand.

Whatever the outcome turns out to be with labour and delivery you are still a GOOD GOD. I am still so thankful for the gift life within me, and the most important thing is delivering a healthy baby, and also having a healthy outcome for myself. Hello me to remain focused on you Lord. Help me to guard my heart against worry- especially worry that comes from well meaning family members who are constantly messaging wanting to know if the baby has arrived! We look forward to announcing this new incredible life to the world. Thank you Jesus!

There are so many other prayers that you can pray for your child:

  • For their salvation
  • For their health
  • For your family unit and the leadership of your husband
  • For their future spouse

I hope these pregnancy prayers are a blessing to you and help ease nerves and fear! For those who have already had children was there a particular scripture you meditated upon?

Please share in the comments below what helped you so that me and other mums can be blessed.

TRUST ISSUES
TRUST ISSUES

by Alethea Awuku September 05, 2019

As I grow, I am realising more and more how important it is for my relationship with Christ to be authentic and not synthetic. This can be a challenge at times because it is very easy to fall into the trap of being consumed with getting things done on the surface.
